About us: Early Steps is a nonprofit organization that helps children of color access independent/private school education in New York City starting in kindergarten and first grade by providing personalized, hands-on guidance to families. The Early Steps process begins a year before children actually enter school – so if your child is entering kindergarten or first grade in fall 2026, you should apply now for our program. If selected, we will work with your family for an entire year, providing school referrals, help navigating the financial aid process, candidate advocacy, school selection assistance, and post-placement support.
