The Impact of EARLY STEPS... 2,000 and growing.
In our first year, 1986, EARLY STEPS assisted 35 families and enrolled 18 children of color in independent schools. Since then, our growth and impact on New York City independent schools has been dramatic. For the 2007-2008 school year, we counseled 667 families (378 families applied to our member schools and 265 acceptances were offered including multiple acceptances to some students) and enrolled 140 students in 48 independent schools. Since we began, EARLY STEPS has enrolled more than 2,000 children of color in independent schools.
The true impact of the EARLY STEPS program in New York City independent schools is immeasurable. The entire community benefits from the richness of the shared experiences gained when many cultures live and learn together. This is an integral part of the mission of EARLY STEPS and its member schools.
