The Impact of EARLY STEPS... 2,300 and growing.

In our first year, 1986, EARLY STEPS assisted 35 families and enrolled 18 children of color in independent schools. Since then, our growth and impact on New York City independent schools has been dramatic. For the 2009-2010 school year, we interviewed and counseled over 600 families (395 families applied to our member schools and 252 acceptances were offered including multiple acceptances to some students) and enrolled 137 students in 47 independent schools. Since we began, EARLY STEPS has enrolled more than 2,300 children of color in independent schools.

The true impact of the EARLY STEPS program in New York City independent schools is immeasurable. The entire community benefits from the richness of the shared experiences gained when many cultures live and learn together. This is an integral part of the mission of EARLY STEPS and its member schools.
