May 1, 2007 20th Anniversary Celebration

EARLY STEPS celebrated 20 years as proud partners with New York City Independent Schools and parents of children of color. The celebration was a dream come true. It is hard to describe the joy and energy in the room generated by having so many friends of EARLY STEPS under one roof. The impact of 20 years was palpable.

Our hosts Deborah Roberts and Al Roker shared their personal experiences as independent school parents and championed the importance of our work. David Trower, EARLY STEPS Board President and Head of The Allen-Stevenson School, shared the history of EARLY STEPS and the difference that it has made for children of color and independent schools over the past 20 years. Morgan Monaco, The Hewitt School ’02 and Vassar College ’06, credited her mom, EARLY STEPS (Jacqui in particular) and her educational experiences with giving her the confidence to believe in herself, to believe that she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to. EARLY STEPS Executive Director, Jacqui Pelzer, spoke from the heart expressing her gratitude to all who give EARLY STEPS the wings to soar: schools, families and friends.
